The stadium is a unique beast with unique challenges in acoustic physics & technology. Faster is often less ideal. In optimising our audio performance, we have considered the performance of stadiums worldwide including:

Typical reverb time, impulse response, speaker positions and distances

Latency of IPTV and audio-hardware

5G & Wi-Fi network conditions in-stadium vs optimised buffering

Human thresholds of vision, audio impulse perception and the speed of sound

The impulse response below shows how one short sound is perceived. It shows the initial time gap, heavy early reflections and long reverberation tail. Stadiums worldwide typically have an intelligibility loss of 50% or more, meaning over 50% of the words spoken over the PA system are not humanly comprehensible at a typical listener seat.

By positioning our latency near the front of the impulse response we provide the best opportunity to enhance PA audio, sync with IPTV and provide perceptibly instant commentary and real-time fan engagement.

All TV broadcasts are delayed. The exact delay varies depending TV station, match location and other factors. TV delay typically ranges from 4-90 seconds.
